A Day in Carnuntum

A Buchklub project to the exhibition ‘Conquer - Discover - Experience in the Roman country of Carnuntum’ (Lower Austria, 2011)

As part of the Lower Austrian exhibition ‘Conquer - Discover - Experience in the Roman country of Carnuntum’ in 2011, the Buchklub invites schools to join in the contest ‘A Day in Carnuntum’. In the course of the project, pupils discover the life of the Romans in Austria. A day at the Roman town of Carnuntum will be awarded to the best projects.

Participants are elementary school and secondary schools from Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

The competition

School classes are invited to read Buchklub media about Roman life in Austria and to produce a newspaper or a website themselves.

Topic 1 - for primary schools
‘Roman life in Austria’
YEP Extra “Romans in Austria” shows pupils how children lived in Rome and Roman Austria. A poster, a wall newspaper or a brochure that draws on this experience should then be produced by the class.

Topic 2 - for secondary schools
‘A day in Carnuntum’
The pupils are asked to produce a newspaper or website based on the Buchklub GORILLA paperback ‘Murder in Carnuntum’, describing a fictional day in Carnuntum based on the events of the novel. This project should focus on Carnuntum, but may include other Roman sites as well.

Closing date: April 1, 2011

This project is run by Buchklub der Jugend (Austria)
