Books Build Bridges
Young and old in discussion – a project involving the literary exchange between young and elderly people in North-Rhine Westphalia.
The successful pilot project, ‘Bücher schlagen Brücken – Books build bridges’, continued in 2011 with the support of the Ministry for Health, Emancipation, Care and the Elderly in North-Rhine Westphalia.
One new aspect is that seven regions in North-Rhine Westphalia have been added. By means of intensive training and a practical guideline for reading aloud, young people are prepared for reading in homes for senior citizen. In a number of selected homes for senior citizens, a package of books is provided to give support in the institutions in reading sessions spanning generations.
This project is run by Stiftung Lesen (Germany)
