Bookstart – Babies lieben Bücher / Bookstart – I bebè amano I libri
This project to encourage early literacy has been running successfully since 2007.
Young parents in the province of South Tyrol (Northern Italy) are given a first package of books and information on sharing books when their baby is six months old. At the age of 18 months the toddlers are given a second package; the second pack is distributed by the public libraries. The parents can choose whether they prefer a book package in German or in Italian.
This project was inspired by Booktrust London and launched with the help of both Booktrust London and the Stiftung Lesen, Mainz, Germany. We are very thankful for their help.
