Diversity in a Class Setting – Magazines in Bavarian Schools
Magazines are especially well suited to encourage reading because of their current content - short articles and variety of texts. Moreover, young men often develop an interest in reading about special topics and texts pertaining to specific subjects. They benefit during their education or when choosing their career, for example, from the information and tips found in trade magazines.
Support in reading and media competencies as well as encouragement in career choice is the aim of the initiative all over Bavaria: Diversity in a class setting - Magazines in Bavarian Schools, run by the association of Magazine publishers in Bavaria (VZB) and Stiftung Lesen. They offer general education teachers and vocational schools the opportunity to order sample issues of magazines. On this basis, up to three magazine titles can be obtained free of charge in a class setting – for three consecutive issues. Emphasis is put on trade and special interest magazines. Teachers will be assisted with stimulating materials, master copies and a website for their lessons, whereby they can get to know the various magazines by means of a description portrait.
