Educational resources

As well as the Everybody Writes project (see separate entry), Booktrust also offers other educational resources.

Find out how to make your classroom poetry friendly with tips and tricks from the former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen, who says, ‘Teachers sometimes ask me, “what’s the best way to get children writing poems?”, and one of the first things I suggest is to create a poetry-friendly classroom. It’s about making a classroom a place where poems are welcome. It’s about pleasure, stimulation, feeling, curiosity, wonder and fun and children finding their own voice.’ The website http://www.childrenslaureate.org.uk/Poetry-Friendly-Classroom features 13 video tips by Michael Rosen; free downloadable poetry activity sheets; a forum for you to share your own ideas and experiences on what works in the classroom; links, articles and other resources.

If you are looking for a writer, illustrator or storyteller to visit to your school or library, we offer a step-by-step practical guide to planning a writer visit or residency on the Writing Together website http://www.writingtogether.org.uk. Find out what you can get out of a visit; where to find a writer; how to manage the practicalities of making a booking; what kinds of residencies other teachers and libraries have organised; how to benefit from a writer visit in subjects such as history and science.

Visit the Research section to read our research into spending on school libraries.
