Read Safely!

Read Safely! (Lesen macht sicher!)

Children need to be able to read and understand signs, icons, pictograms and instructions to move safely through their daily routines. In cooperation with the Austrian Ministry for Education and the Austrian Road Safety Board, the Buchklub continues the campaign Read Safely! (Lesen macht sicher!). This year the focus is on reading signs in parks, on walking tours, in shopping centres or at railway stations.

The chosen approach of the initiative is a playful one: A safety quiz in the Buchklub magazines for primary schools, PHILIPP and YEP, and a safety poster for the class with the most important signs and traffic signs add up to a competition for the whole class that runs throughout the school year 2009/2010.

As a result of last year’s campaign, which centred on road safety and reading traffic signs, additional online games for children are provided at http://www.buchklub.at/Lesepraxis/Volksschule/Lesen-macht-sicher.html, for example a quiz and a sudoko with traffic signs and a quiz about bicycles.

This project is run by Buchklub der Jugend (Austria)
