Reading Suitcase for Children in Care
A unique initiative of Deutsche Bahn AG
The Deutsche Bahn (national train company) cooperated with Stiftung Lesen in November 2007 in starting a reading promotion initiative for a particular group of children in need: children and young people in care, both residential and in day-care homes. So far, 2,000 homes in Germany have been equipped with ‘read aloud suitcases’, each containing children’s books and didactic games, children’s magazines and reading suggestions. A comparable suitcase of books is provided for young people, filled with material suitable for their age group.
This campaign intends to equip all children and youth care institutions and residential care homes in Germany with these suitcases, providing exciting printed material that can be read out to the children and young people, or that they can read by themselves.
This project is run by Stiftung Lesen (Germany)
