TOMMI: The children’s software prize

TOMMI is the German prize that aims to evaluate and recognise innovation and excellence in software for children.

The prize was started by ‘spielen und lernen’ magazine and the Berlin office of children’s media FEIBEL.DE. The prize has been awarded every year at the Frankfurt Book Fair since 2002, and is open to software titles that are published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. .

Special prize “Kindergarten und Vorschule / Kindergarten and preschool”

In cooperation with the Stiftung Lesen and its Institute for Reading and Media Research, staff of the media-pedagogic institute of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, together with children in day care centres in the Rhine Main area and in the city library in Frankfurt am Main determine the winners of the special prize in the sector of ‘Kindergarten and Preschool’.

Together with the scientific staff of both institutes various console and computer games are tried out. For this purpose, the preschool children examine the games critically and, as is the case with ‘TOMMI’, decide which the best game is for children of kindergarten age.

This project is run by Stiftung Lesen (Germany)
